Louisville Cardinals vs Syracuse Orange
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, September 9, 2016
Where: Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York
Lines: Louisville -14
On Friday, there is ACC action as the Louisville Cardinals travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York to battle the Syracuse Orange in the 2nd game for both teams. Last week, the Cardinals flexed their muscles with a 70-14 win over Charlotte, while Syracuse is off a 33-7 win over Colgate.
Jackson Leads Cardinals To Rout Of 49ers
Well that’s an understatement. The Louisville Cardinals were 38.5 point favorites against the Charlotte 49ers and they still covered by the game by four 17.5 points in the 70-14 win. Wow. The Cardinals rang up 663 yards and 38 first downs in the game. They had 391 yards passing and 272 yards rushing, which is a very balanced offensive attack. Lamar Jackson led the Cardinals passing game 286 yards and six TDs on 17/23 passing. A very good start to the season for the sophomore He also led team the team in rushing with 119 yards on the ground and has two more TDs as well. Oh and by the way, the eight TDs and 417 yards he accounted for were all in the first half of the game as the Cardinals had a 56-0 lead at the half.
The 2nd half of the game was played evenly as the Cardinals pretty much called off the dogs. They did score two TDs in the second half, but so did Charlotte. Louisville did also play solid ball at the defensive end of the field as they allowed just 208 total yards and just 12 total first downs. Jamari Staples had a solid game receiving with 83 yards on four catches, but didn’t have a TD. eight different players for the Cardinals caught TD passes. Louisville is a very solid team with 17 starters back from a team that went 8-5 last year and beat Texas A&M in the Music City Bowl. They are tough and while they should have a cakewalk in this game, let’s also note that they have a huge game vs Florida State on deck at home. That will be an excellent game for sure.
Orange Grab Easy Win Vs Colgate
The Syracuse Orange are picked by many to finish 7th in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, so they need some easy wins and getting an FCS team at home is one way to do that. On Saturday they took on Colgate as 23.5 point favorites and were able to win the game 33-7. Last year they started 3-0 on the year as they beat up on a few easy foes, but then went 1-8 the rest of the year, with their only win over that stretch being by just three points at home over Lowly Boston College in their season finale. They Orange are hoping that a repeat of that doesn’t happen and they do have a decent shot at challenging for a bowl this year as they have 16 starters back from a team that was outscored by just 3.7 ppg despite their 4-8 record.
In the win over Colgate, the game was tied 7-7 after one, but Syracuse outscored them 26-0 the rest of the way. They outgained Colgate 554 yards to 143 yards and out-first downed them 25-11. With those numbers the score should have been a bit more lopsided, especially with the Orange throwing for 437 yards on 40 of 46 passing. That’s 87% passing folks. Eric Dungey had a great game as he completed 85% of his passes (34/40) for 355 yards and two TDs. His favorite target in the game was Amba Etta-Tawo, who caught 12 passes for 210 yards and a TD. One this is for sure and that is that the Orange will need to find the Endzone more in this game as they had four FGs in the win over Colgate and with all the yards they piled up they should have had more TDs.
- 5-1 Over last 6 overall.
- 5-2-1 Over last 8 road games.
- 4-1 Over last 5 conference games.
- 10-3 Over last 13 overall.
Dino Babers brings his high-octane offense to Syracuse and while they had to settle for some FGs in their opener, I don’t expect that to happen here. They have to score more to keep up with the high powered attack of Louisville. This game should be up and down the field and see at least 70 points being scored.
Our Pick: Over 68
